A survivor’s pension is granted to dependent family members who are unable to work and who were financially supported by the deceased breadwinner.
Who is eligible?
- A spouse or parents if they have a disability or have reached retirement age.
- Children under the age of 18, or older children if they were diagnosed with a disability before reaching adulthood.
- Students enrolled in full-time education — until the age of 23.
- Orphaned children — until the age of 23.
- Family members of a person reported missing — provided they were financially dependent on that person.
- A spouse, or if there is no spouse, one of the parents, a brother, sister, grandfather, or grandmother of the deceased breadwinner, provided they are not employed and are caring for the deceased’s child (or children) until the youngest reaches 8 years of age.
Pension amount
- One eligible dependent receives 50% of the deceased breadwinner’s old-age pension.
- Two or more eligible dependents receive 100% of the deceased breadwinner’s old-age pension, divided equally among them.
Minimum pension amounts in 2025
- One eligible dependent: UAH 2,361 (100% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost working capacity).
- Two eligible dependents: UAH 2,833.20 (120% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost working capacity).
- Three or more eligible dependents: UAH 3,541.50 (150% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost working capacity).
Duration of payments
- Until the beneficiary is no longer considered unable to work.
- For retirement-age beneficiaries, the pension is paid for life.

Applications for a survivor’s pension should be submitted within 12 months of the breadwinner’s death.
