Today, grant opportunities in Ukraine continue to expand, and obtaining a grant through the State Employment Service is one of the fastest ways to secure funding for starting or expanding a business in Ukraine.
The “Own Business” program and “Grants for Veterans and Their Family Members” have become key tools for economic recovery.
Here are five practical steps that will help you move from an idea to receiving funds in your account.
Step 1: Before writing a business plan, make sure you meet the basic requirements. At the initial application stage, the automatic screening system may reject your application if:
• You have debts to the state budget (taxes, unified social contribution).
• You have open enforcement proceedings or court cases related to fraud.
• You have previously received a similar grant and failed to fulfill its conditions.
Step 2: The foundation of your application is a well-prepared business plan. The Employment Service evaluates not your dream, but specific figures and calculations. By the way, our specialists are always ready to consult and assist you in preparing your business plan.
Step 3: The application process through the Diia portal is fully digitalized. There is no need to visit an employment center with piles of paperwork. You simply fill out the application form and attach your business plan file. The system automatically checks your credit history and veteran status through state registries.
Step 4: If you receive the required passing score after Oschadbank’s assessment, you will be invited to an interview at the regional employment center. Currently, interviews are conducted online via Zoom or Google Meet. During the interview, you will need to present and defend your business idea before the commission.
Step 5: After receiving a positive decision from the State Employment Center, you open a specialized bank account for the grant funds. The money can only be spent on purchases specified in your business plan and application.
Receiving a grant is not only about financial support, but also about the opportunity to bring your idea to life, expand your professional network, and contribute to the development of your community or industry. Plan carefully, prepare thoroughly, and do not be afraid to try again — success comes with experience.
