Support that works: how the employment service helps develop business in a frontline region

Published 09 April 2026 year, 16:10

In the challenging conditions of frontline Donetsk region, state support for entrepreneurship is of particular importance — it becomes a real tool for those who are ready to work, create jobs, and contribute to community development.

On April 9, the Director of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center, Nataliia Adamova, met with a winner of the “Own Business” grant program — entrepreneur Andrii Kovalenko from Sloviansk.

He registered his business in May 2025. With many years of experience in the medical field, he had long dreamed of opening his own office, but a lack of financial resources prevented him from doing so. Participation in the state grant program became the decisive step.

The grant funds made it possible to purchase a modern electroencephalographic computer system and the necessary office equipment — tools that open up new opportunities for providing high-quality medical services to the population.

An important outcome was not only the launch of his own business, but also the creation of new jobs. Two employees have already been hired using the employer compensation mechanism.

During the meeting, Nataliia Adamova emphasized that the employment service supports entrepreneurs at every stage — from idea to implementation.

“Our task is not only to inform about opportunities, but to become a true partner for businesses. Especially here in Donetsk region, where every entrepreneur operates under increased risks. That is why we provide maximum consulting, organizational, and service support,” she noted.

Working close to the combat zone involves constant challenges: security risks, economic instability, and population displacement. At the same time, this is where the need for accessible services, new jobs, and local economic development is felt most strongly.

And it is precisely here that, through a combination of professional experience, determination, and state support, it is possible not only to build a business, but also to contribute to the recovery of the region.
