Supporting Veterans and Employers During Employment: Dialogue Between Government and Business

Published 05 September 2025 year, 16:02

On September 4, business representatives from Donetsk region took part in another online discussion on the topics “New opportunities for veterans and employers: vacancies, resumes, grants, training” and “Psychological support for those whose family members are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

The regional platform “Dialogue Between Government and Business” was created on the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to promptly address current issues faced by entrepreneurs.

Russia’s full-scale invasion and the growing number of veterans returning to civilian life and work is a major challenge for our society. New opportunities for employment are the key to a stable life and well-being of our defenders.

During the meeting, Hanna Komelkova, Deputy Head of the Department and Head of the Veterans’ Social Protection and Family Support Division at the Donetsk Regional Administration’s Veterans Policy Office, briefed business representatives on the legal aspects of employing veterans.

Employers are now primarily interested in improving information-sharing about available vacancies among veterans. Awareness on both sides will facilitate interaction and help match qualified candidates to open positions.

Entrepreneurs were also introduced to the online platform “Veteran’s Career,” launched by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs together with the Ukrainian Veterans Fund. The platform helps facilitate communication between veterans and employers.

Representatives of the State Emergency Service, which actively involves veterans in its activities, and specialists from the State Employment Service also presented employment opportunities for veterans.

On the topic of psychological support for families of service members, Natalia Kosheleva, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology and a counseling psychologist at the Center for Psychological Resilience of the Horlivka Institute of Foreign Languages, addressed business representatives. She emphasized the importance of maintaining resilience, taking care of one’s health, and engaging in resourceful activities.

Experts participating in the meeting answered entrepreneurs’ questions regarding veteran employment, professional development courses, psycho-emotional support, and peer support groups for military families.
