Our fellow townspeople, together with the Sheptytsky community, attended a performance of *Citizens* as part of the national initiative “Side by Side: United Communities.”
At the Sheptytsky People’s House, the Lesya Ukrainka Sheptytsky People’s Drama Theater presented a production based on Yegor Konik’s play “The Citizens of Calais,” which won third prize at the “Coronation of the Word” International Literary Competition.
This production remains strikingly relevant today, even though it transports the audience to a 14th-century French town. Faced with mortal danger, the wealthiest and most influential townspeople decided to sacrifice themselves to save the community.
“Such thought-provoking social works help people feel a sense of unity, understand their own worth, and recognize their place in the community. Residents of the Donetsk region who are currently in the Lviv region are now part of the local community, and it is important for them to be integrated into it while preserving their local identity. Thanks to the ‘Side by Side: United Communities’ project, our fellow countrymen feel supported and included in society,” said Dmytro Shynkar, head of the “Yednannia” humanitarian hub.
