The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, together with the State Tax Service, is conducting a communication campaign called "Taxes Protect." A series of infographics and videos describe various real-life situations that will teach you about:

  • the most common tax situations for Ukrainian citizens and the corresponding taxes,
  • the procedure for paying them and their distribution between the state and local budgets,
  • where the state spends the taxes paid by citizens,
  • the consequences of tax evasion.

Read about a real-life situation and find out what taxes Anna pays when renting out two apartments.

40-year-old Anna has several one-room apartments, two of which she rents out. She receives 20,000 UAH per month for the apartment in the capital and 15,000 UAH for the apartment in Uzhhorod (a total of 105,000 UAH per quarter; 420,000 UAH per year). To legalize her income, Anna registered her activity as a sole proprietor (individual entrepreneur) of group 3. This allows her to officially provide rental services to Ukrainian citizens and foreigners.

Every quarter, Anna submits a tax return through the Electronic Taxpayer's Office on the State Tax Service web portal and pays taxes and mandatory insurance contributions.

If Anna receives rent payments to her personal bank card, in cryptocurrency, or in cash and does not declare these funds, it turns out that she does not pay income tax. Then:

  • the military does not have high-quality equipment for individual protection on the battlefield,
  • patients freeze in the therapeutic ward of the hospital,
  • state social insurance funds are not replenished, so Anna will not receive social insurance and corresponding payments if necessary.
