The summer trip to Latvia was a true source of vivid experiences, new friendships, and positive emotions for the children of Donetsk Oblast. For the third summer in a row, as part of the cooperation between the Bakhmut City Council and the Saldus Municipality, young residents of Bakhmut have had the opportunity to relax in friendly Latvia and experience the care, support, and hospitality of their Latvian friends.

As is tradition, the visitors from Donetsk were welcomed by Maris Zust, head of the Saldus Regional Local Government. A warm and friendly meeting took place, featuring introductions, a photo session, and an exchange of gifts and souvenirs.

The program for the visit was packed with cultural, creative, athletic, and educational activities. The children learned about the history and traditions of Latvia, visited Saldus, Brocēni, Riga, Jūrmala, Kuldīga, and other picturesque corners of the country, toured museums, an art school, and a youth center, and participated in creative workshops, outdoor activities, and excursions. Particularly memorable experiences included walks along the Baltic coast, learning about Latvian culture, making new friends, and genuine interactions with local youth.

An unforgettable event was attending the charity concert “Two Countries—One Heart” at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jurmala, where Latvian and Ukrainian artists came together in support of Ukraine. The atmosphere of unity, sincere solidarity, and support left the children with special memories and reminded them once again that Ukraine has true friends.
