Bringing back children who have been forced to leave Ukraine due to the full-scale war requires coordinated efforts by various agencies and support from local communities. One such return was successfully organized today thanks to the joint efforts of the Pokrovsk and Sheptytsky communities.
In 2022, after hostilities began in the Donetsk region, an orphan living in a specialized care facility was evacuated to Germany. After a prolonged stay abroad, the question arose of returning the child to Ukraine and arranging for their continued education.
Specialists from the Pokrovsk City Council’s Child Welfare Service, together with the facility’s administration and the Donetsk Regional State Administration’s Child Welfare Service, organized the necessary measures for the child’s return.
An important part of this process was the support provided by the Sheptytskyi community, which provided a vehicle, making it possible to safely transport the child accompanied by a representative of the Child Welfare Service.
This assistance was provided as part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” which aims to strengthen cooperation between communities, and in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation between the Sheptytsia and Pokrovsk communities.
Upon returning to Ukraine, the child was enrolled in an educational institution with full state support. There, she will be able to continue her education, earn a vocational degree, and gain the necessary skills for an independent life in the future.
This story is an example of how community collaboration and the joint efforts of relevant agencies help resolve important issues and create opportunities for children to return to Ukraine, continue their education, and build their future.
