Deputy Head of the Department for Veteran Policy of the Regional State Administration Inna Starostina and a specialist in supporting veterans and demobilized persons from the Druzhkivka City Center for Social Services took part in a 4-day camp for specialists in veteran and demobilized person support, organized by the NGO Space of Opportunities with the assistance of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.

The camp was built around several components: strategic planning, training, discussion, research, and facilitation. At each stage, participants gained new knowledge, exchanged experiences, brainstormed ideas, and engaged in dialogue with representatives of various fields where veterans receive services.

It is important to emphasize that support specialists are the first to meet veterans after demobilization and help them navigate the path of reintegration into civilian life.

During the strategic planning sessions, participants addressed the key challenges faced by specialists supporting veterans and demobilized persons, including health recovery, housing, social services, employment, and starting their own businesses. As a result, proposals were developed for amendments to regulatory and legal acts to better address these needs.

For Donetsk region, this was an invaluable experience to work and learn alongside other specialists in veteran and demobilized person support.

The camp produced many practical outcomes and approaches. Specialists exchanged contacts to ensure quick responses to the needs of our veterans, their families, the families of fallen Heroes, and the relatives of those missing under special circumstances.

We sincerely thank the NGO Space of Opportunities, Oksana Koliada, and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine for the opportunity to participate and highlight the challenges faced by Donetsk region in conditions of relocation.
