On 28 October, the Donetsk Regional Local History Museum held an online meeting as part of the series ‘About the museum over coffee’ on the topic ‘Reinterpreting the Soviet era in the museum space’.
The event aimed to discuss the rethinking of Soviet heritage in the context of finding new approaches to its presentation in museum exhibitions. The speaker at the meeting was Dana Brezhneva, a researcher, independent curator, participant in the art initiative ‘De Ne De’ and co-founder of the NGO ‘Museum Open for Renovation’.
The relevance of the topic sparked a lively discussion, including on the issue of changing the image of ‘heroes’ defined by Soviet ideologues, once again proving that museums are a kind of living platform for constructive dialogue in the process of shaping national memory.
The Donetsk Regional Local History Museum expresses its gratitude to Dana Brezhneva for an interesting professional conversation that inspired the participants of the meeting to continue their research work from the perspective of museum practice.
