Christmas begins with a small light.
It is not always the first star on Christmas Eve. Sometimes it is a candle on a windowsill. Sometimes it is a window that stays lit during an air raid. Sometimes it is a friendly voice saying, “Hold on, I’m here.”
We know darkness well—the kind that comes with war. But Christmas reminds us every year of a simple truth: darkness exists only where there is a lack of light. Light even a single spark, and it already changes the space around us.
“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it,” Scripture says.
And this is the light I wish for all Ukrainians. Warm, homely, alive. May it live in your hearts, in your families, in your homes—wherever they may be now. And may the new year bring us all the day when light finally prevails, and we will celebrate Christmas in a peaceful Ukraine.
Christ is born! Glorify Him!
