Jobs and Housing for Displaced People: The Story of a Couple’s Employment at the “Lamella” Enterprise

Published 13 August 2025 year, 09:46

Due to the full-scale war, Liudmyla Semenova and her husband moved from their native Novoselivka in the Bakhmut district to Kramatorsk. Seeking stable employment and a return to their normal rhythm of life, she turned to the Employment Service for assistance.

Liudmyla has a vocational education as a seamstress and work experience as a librarian, but after leaving her previous job, she struggled to find new employment on her own.

Employment Service specialists took her professional skills into account and offered several job options in safer regions of Ukraine. Among the vacancies, Liudmyla was particularly interested in a packer position at the Lamella State Enterprise in the town of Tiachiv, Zakarpattia region, where the employer provides housing for workers.

During consultations, it turned out that Liudmyla’s husband, Volodymyr Shostak, despite being a pensioner by age, had significant work experience and a desire to continue working. A position as a sorter of wooden materials and products at the same enterprise was found for him.

The Employment Service arranged an online interview with the employer for the couple. The video meeting format made the selection process quick and convenient. Both candidates received a positive response, and after a short internship, they officially began work at the end of July.
