Sergiy Lisovitsky joined HALO Ukraine in May 2023. Before the full-scale invasion, he worked in the quarries of his native Druzhkivka, and after February 24, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He participated in combat operations and was injured. After demobilization, Sergiy was looking for a job where he could be useful.
Volunteers recommended HALO Ukraine. Indeed, it was in the field of humanitarian demining that Sergiy found both purpose and a team, as well as motivation - to wake up every morning and know what to do.
“At HALO, I started in manual demining, but even then, I was drawn to machinery. I had experience working with heavy equipment — excavators, bulldozers — and I realized that this is my calling. Now I am a mechanical demining operator. I do what I truly love,” says Sergiy.
On demining sites, he often encounters treacherous mining — traps specifically laid against deminers. The work requires exceptional concentration.
“Every movement is a responsibility. Here, everything matters. But when you know you are making the land safe for others — it gives you inner strength,” the man assures.
