Dmytro (name changed for security reasons) is 40 years old. He now lives in a boarding house for people with disabilities and is gradually finding the strength to move on with his life. Not long ago, he was evacuated from Pokrovsk - wounded, undocumented and in an emotionally disturbed state due to Russian armed aggression.

His civilian wife and her daughter were killed by enemy mine fragments at a bus stop in broad daylight in the town of Ukrainsk. He miraculously survived and was hospitalized in Pokrovsk. But due to constant shelling, the medical facility was evacuated. From there, the wounded man was taken to Dnipro by the team of the Vostok SOS Charitable Foundation.

Dmytro's life was not easy even before the war. Long-term drug addiction, criminal record, diagnoses. But after the loss of his loved ones, he decided that if he was alive, he should try to live.

The team of Vostok SOS helped him to get temporary shelter at the Center for Social Adaptation for People with Disabilities of the NGO Ocean of Good and began preparing him for resettlement. The man had no documents and no idea where to start. So they started with the basics: Oksana Akchebash, a social worker at the Vostok SOS charity foundation, helped him restore his passport and code.

Then came the lengthy procedure for establishing disability. It was difficult, but Oksana stayed by his side - both as a specialist and as a sensitive person. In 2 months, the man received the second group of disability, and later - all payments. This allowed him not only to survive but also to gradually recover.

Every month, the team of the Vostok SOS Charity Foundation helps hundreds of people who have lost everything because of the war. It is possible to start anew if there is support.

From November 2024 to June 2025, the team of the Vostok SOS Charitable Foundation, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), provided 14,526 hot meals, 3,101 social and 777 psychological counseling sessions to war victims, and helped 353 people find a safe place to live.

The psychosocial support is provided within the framework of the project "Protection and Psychosocial Services for People with Limited Mobility and Persons with Disabilities Affected by the War", supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
