We congratulate the theater community of Donetsk Oblast on International Theater Day, a celebration of those for whom the stage is both a profession and a way of thinking, feeling, and expressing themselves in the world.
Today, as Ukraine endures the hardships of war, culture itself becomes a source of inner strength, resilience, and faith. It unites, supports, and speaks the language of truth. And it is you who make this language alive, profound, and compelling.
It is especially important that theaters continue their mission in Ukraine and far beyond its borders. The Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater (Mariupol) has become a symbol of unbreakable character, dignity, and an indomitable will. Having lost your home stage, you were able to preserve what matters most – the calling to create, to speak, and to feel together with the audience. Your performances are not just art; they are a testament to our times, embodying both pain and hope that resonate in people’s hearts.
In the near future, the troupe will travel to the Slovak Republic with the production “The Mariupol Drama,” bringing the truth of their experiences to a European audience. It is symbolic that this performance will be presented to Slovak audiences on International Theater Day. This is an important contribution to promoting Ukrainian cultural diplomacy and strengthening international support for our country.
Thank you for your dedication to your craft, your courage, and for every emotion you bring to audiences on the big stage, in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and abroad. Special respect goes to those who did not betray Ukraine and to those who took up arms to defend it.
