The European youth sumo championships for athletes under 21 and under 23 took place in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, bringing together 140 participants from 11 countries.
Athletes from the Bakhmut and Sloviansk communities represented the Donetsk region on the Ukrainian national team. By the end of the competition, they had won 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Sofia Rudkovska won four medals. She became European champion as a member of the Ukrainian U21 and U23 teams, took silver in the over-75-kg weight class among U21 competitors, and won bronze in the over-80-kg weight class among U23 competitors.
Viktoria Vasylyeva claimed the title of European champion in the under-50-kg weight class among U21 athletes and also won a bronze medal in the same weight class among U23 athletes.
Valentyna Leshchynsky took first place as a member of the Ukrainian U23 team.
Dmytro Yemets won a silver medal in the under-70-kg weight class among U23 athletes.
Mykhailo Shapovalov placed seventh in the over-115-kg weight class among athletes under 23 years of age.
The athletes from Donetsk oblast were prepared for the competition by Oleg Reva, honored coach of Ukraine in sumo, as well as coaches Vitaliy Zhdanov, Olga Mytnyk, and Yelyzaveta Morenko.
