From May 23 to 31, the Polish capital hosted the World Powerlifting Championships in the classic and equipped bench press for all age groups, bringing together 807 athletes from 35 countries.
Representatives of the Donetsk region, as part of the Ukrainian national team, added 5 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals to the national tally.
In the classic bench press among juniors, Artur Vyatkin, an athlete from the Sloviansk community, won the bronze medal in the weight category up to 105 kg.
The performances of Donetsk Oblast representatives in the powerlifting bench press were particularly successful.
Among men, the winner in the weight category up to 93 kg was Kostyantyn Musienko from the Druzhkivka community. The athlete not only won the gold medal but also set a new world record among men—362.5 kg. The champion was trained by coach Daria Rusanenko.
Among juniors in the under-120 kg category, Vadym Rozdorozhnyi from the Lyman community won gold and also met the standard for the title of Master of Sports of Ukraine (International Class). The athlete’s coaches are Tetiana Ashimbreyner and Alona Savenko.
Ivan Trunov, representing the Bakhmut community, won the bronze medal in the junior division in the over-120 kg category. The athlete was coached by Serhiy Lyubchenko and Kateryna Lyubchenko.
Among the junior women in the under-47 kg category, Oksana Gerasymenko, representing the Kramatorsk community, took first place. Alina Nikoghosyan, an athlete from the Druzhkivka community, won the silver medal in the over-84 kg category, while Regina Fursenko took bronze in the under-69 kg category.
Among the boys, Andriy Mariyash and Pavlo Mariyash, representing the Lyman community, became world champions in the weight categories up to 53 kg and up to 59 kg, respectively. They were trained by coach Tetiana Ashimbreyner.
Maksym Fedin, a representative of the Kramatorsk community, won the silver medal in the 74 kg category. The athlete set a European record among juniors and, based on his performance, became the undisputed world champion among juniors. The athlete was trained by distinguished coaches of Ukraine Alona Bychkova and Oleksiy Bychkov.
Also among the top ten at the competition in Warsaw were: Alona Savenko (5th place among women in the 84 kg weight class), Kateryna Pinionzh (7th place among women in the 59 kg weight class), and Danylo Potomakhin (7th place among juniors in the 83 kg weight class).
The team achievements were also a significant highlight of the championship: the Ukrainian national team took first place among junior women, junior men, and youth, once again confirming its status as one of the strongest in the world.
