On October 1, to mark Defenders of Ukraine Day and on the eve of World Walking Day, the now-traditional ascent of our country’s highest peak – Hoverla, at 2,061 meters – took place. For the fourth consecutive year, the event was organized at the initiative of the Donetsk regional center for physical health of population “Sport for all” and with the support of the regional state administration’s Department of physical culture and sports.
This year, 46 participants, including 6 children, joined the climb. The group included employees of the regional and local “Sport for all” centers, as well as representatives from other municipal sports facilities of the Donetsk region, local communities and hubs for internally displaced persons.
To climb Hoverla, the participants chose a steep route leading directly to the summit. The mountain trek provided a boost of energy, vitality and vivid emotions for both those who were testing their limits on such a hike for the first time and more experienced participants. Step by step, the group completed the entire route, supporting one another and moving together toward a shared goal.
All participants received commemorative medals to mark the event.
Launched in 2022, the ascent of Hoverla has become a cherished tradition in the Donetsk region, combining an active lifestyle, team spirit, and a tribute to the courage of Ukraine’s defenders.
Year after year, this tradition brings together more and more people around shared values – mutual support, unity and love for Ukraine.
