Accessibility is when you can open your heart, are willing to listen, hear and be there for others. During National Accessibility Week, art became a bridge between hearts, proving that there are no barriers to genuine emotions and support. Students and lecturers from the I. Karabits Bakhmut College of Culture and Arts visited servicemen undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at a hospital in the Khmelnytskyi region with a charity concert entitled ‘Voices of Gratitude’.

The atmosphere of the event was filled with genuine warmth, and the programme itself demonstrated how the cultural sphere becomes accessible and open to everyone.

The college’s students and teachers approached the creation of the programme with particular sensitivity. The repertoire was selected to bring the soldiers positive emotions, a sense of comfort and boundless gratitude. The audience was treated to Ukrainian folk songs, patriotic medleys and contemporary international compositions.

“For us, this performance is a huge honour and responsibility. Accessibility isn’t just about ramps or architecture. It’s about the absence of barriers in communication, about mental support. If our performances made someone smile or forget their pain for even a moment, we have fulfilled our mission,” the college students shared their impressions.

All-Ukrainian Accessibility Week aims to draw attention to creating equal opportunities for all citizens. And this concert was a shining example of inclusive interaction. The students didn’t just perform on stage – they actively chatted with the servicemen after the performance and shared warm hugs.

For many soldiers currently undergoing physical and psychological rehabilitation, such encounters are a breath of fresh air. And the thunderous applause with which they saw off the young performers was the best proof that art truly has healing power.

The ‘Voices of Gratitude’ concert proved once again: when the youthful energy, sincere gratitude and unbreakable spirit of our soldiers come together, all barriers are broken down, and that culture is a powerful tool for support, an integral part of the soldiers’ recovery, a manifestation of humanity and an important step towards creating a truly barrier-free society.
