Resilience centers help older residents of Donetsk cope with the hardships of wartime

Published 01 April 2026 year, 10:10

The Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine is continuing to implement a project as part of the nationwide mental health program “How Are You?” initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.

This project involves establishing Resilience Centers in communities where anyone can receive free psychosocial support.

The Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, Mangush, Mykolaivka, and Sartana territorial communities have joined a pilot project to introduce comprehensive social services aimed at building resilience and continue to provide these services to residents of Donetsk Oblast. At the same time, the communities are collaborating with charitable and civil society organizations to provide social services within the region and beyond.

Communities in the Donetsk region have established 5 resilience centers, 4 of which provide comprehensive social services to help build resilience for evacuated residents of the Donetsk region outside the region—in the cities of Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro.

This year, 75 joint evenings/meetings were held at the resilience centers with older residents of Donetsk to exchange experiences, with 321 people participating.

These meetings help older citizens overcome the difficulties of wartime, integrate into host communities, and maintain ties with Donetsk Oblast.

Our Resilience Centers are welcoming, accessible spaces where every community member can seek support from a psychologist or consult with a social worker.

We invite all Donetsk residents to visit their nearest Resilience Center and receive comprehensive social services to build resilience.
