Nowadays, inclusion and barrier-free accessibility are becoming increasingly important aspects of society. The college, as an educational institution, plays a key role in fostering a conscious and responsible attitude towards people with disabilities and other people with limited mobility.

On May 20, 2025, students of Bakhmut Ivan Karabits Professional College of Culture and Arts discussed stereotypes that affect the quality of life of people with disabilities.

The event was held as part of the National Barrier-Free Week, which is being implemented as part of the strategy for creating a barrier-free space in Ukraine at the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

At the event, participants analyzed the problems of people with disabilities and society's attitude towards them, emphasizing that creating a barrier-free environment is not only about complying with legal norms, but also about demonstrating respect for each individual, recognizing their right to equal opportunities in education, development and socialization.

This is when everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender or special needs, can move freely, study, work, travel, use online services, and influence the life of the community and the country.

After reading the Barrier-Free Handbook, the students discussed how they would use the information in their everyday lives and took a series of tests to consolidate their knowledge.

Particular attention was paid to the ethics of communication with people with disabilities and the rules for providing them with assistance.

Barrier-free accessibility is the norm of the modern world, part of our European future and a real tool for community and state development. It is a space where everyone has the opportunity to live, study, work and self-realize.
