On May 20, the platform “Center for Unity and National Resistance” together with the Department of Family, Youth and Mass Events of National and Patriotic Education of the Regional State Administration held an online dialogue “1944: Genocide and Repression” for residents of Kramatorsk district.
The year 1944 was a tragic page for the Crimean Tatar people, who suffered one of the most brutal crimes of the Soviet totalitarian regime - forced mass deportation from their native Crimea. Hundreds of thousands of people were deported in inhumane conditions to Central Asia, which was an act of ethnic cleansing.
The speaker Yaroslav Utenko described in detail the course of the deportation, the subsequent hard labor and the life of the Crimean Tatars in the “special settlements”. It was emphasized that the Russian Federation, as the successor to the USSR, continues to harass and repress the indigenous population of the peninsula after the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
The participants actively participated in the discussion and had the opportunity to assess their knowledge by taking part in an interactive quiz at the end of the event.
The Center for Unity and National Resistance platform continues its work. We invite the communities of the region to submit proposals for organizing various online events. The platform seeks to engage young people in a comprehensive study of the history of Ukraine and its present, contributing to the formation of an active civic position.
