On October 28, 2026, Donetsk National Medical University hosted the second annual futsal tournament in memory of Hero of Ukraine Stepan Chubenko, held in honor of his birthday. Stepan’s mother, Mrs. Stalina, attended the match.
This year, the event expanded in scale and took on regional significance in the Kirovohrad region. Students from Donetsk National Medical University participated in the competition: the team from Medical Faculty No. 1, the team from Medical Faculty No. 2, and the team from the Educational and Research Institute of Dentistry and Pharmacy (coach: Valentin Yakushevsky). A team from the Kompaniivka Territorial Community—FC “Kompaniivka” of the municipal institution “Kompaniivka Lyceum”—also joined the tournament (coach: Yulia Stetsenko).
The match was held at the “Regional Specialized Children’s and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve-2” municipal institution in accordance with the “Official FIFA Rules of Soccer.” The game was officiated by national-level referee Zaur Kurbanov (Kherson).
Based on the results of the competition, the final standings were as follows:
1st place – the team from the Kompaniivka Territorial Community, FC “Kompaniivka,” of the Kompaniivka Lyceum municipal institution
2nd place – the team from Medical Faculty No. 2 of Donetsk National Medical University
Third place – the team from Medical Faculty No. 1 of Donetsk National Medical University.
Fourth place – the team from the Educational and Research Institute of Dentistry and Pharmacy at Donetsk National Medical University.
But in reality, there were no losers at this tournament, because every shot was dedicated to the youngest Hero of Ukraine (posthumously), Stepan Chubenko, whom Russian mercenaries killed in 2014 for his love of and devotion to Ukraine.
The teams were actively supported by fans. All players received awards and prizes.
The tournament was held with the support of Maya Yermolayeva, acting rector of Donetsk National Medical University, and Dmytro Yanchuk, director of the Kirovohrad Regional Center for Public Physical Health “Sport for All,” on the initiative of Yulia Serdyuchenko, DNMU’s authorized representative for the protection of the state language, and Valentin Yakushevsky, senior lecturer at the DNMU Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.
It is safe to say that the futsal (mini-soccer) tournament in memory of Hero of Ukraine Stepan Chubenko at Donetsk National Medical University has become a tradition.
