The ninth meeting of the EU–Ukraine Association Committee took place in Brussels, marking an important milestone in coordinating further reforms and preparing for the next stage of the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The Ukrainian delegation, comprising over 100 representatives of public authorities participating both online and in person, was headed by Oleksandr Ilkov, Director General of the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
On behalf of the European Union, the meeting was co-chaired by Anna Yarosz-Friis, Director for Ukraine Service at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST), and Baiba Tavaresa, Acting Deputy Managing Director for Ukraine at the European External Action Service. Representatives of several Directorates-General of the European Commission, the European External Action Service, and the EU Delegation to Ukraine also took part in the meeting.
The intensification of the work of bilateral association bodies, particularly following the completion of the screening process, has become a key element of a structured dialogue on reform implementation, timely assessment of progress in the negotiation process, and identification of joint technical steps reflected in the respective operational conclusions.
Among the key priorities of the ninth meeting were preparations for the opening of negotiation clusters, implementation of reform roadmaps, and further alignment of Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis.
Director General Oleksandr Ilkov emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to maintaining a high pace of European integration. In this context, the finalization of the draft National Programme for the Adaptation of Legislation to the EU acquis is currently underway.
Concluding the meeting, the parties noted the productive nature of the discussions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepening cooperation. Following the meeting, operational conclusions will be adopted, outlining the next steps within the framework of the Association Agreement and the accession negotiation process.
