Veterans on the Path to New Careers: A Partnership Between the Employment Service and the Development Center

Published 21 July 2025 year, 15:51

The Donetsk Regional Employment Service places special emphasis on supporting veterans, helping them reintegrate into civilian life, find employment, improve their qualifications, or start their own business. To make this support even more effective, the service is expanding partnerships with other institutions dedicated to assisting Ukraine’s Defenders.

On July 21, Natalia Adamova, Acting Director of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center, visited the Veteran Development Center, recently opened in Kyiv at the Donetsk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education. The meeting was also attended by Olena Barabanova, Rector of the Institute, and Yulia Burtseva, Acting Director of the Donetsk Regional Department of Education.

The Center supports veterans in their transition to civilian life: helping them gain new knowledge and skills, master new professions, and access psychological, social, and legal assistance. It is a space where everyone returning from war can rediscover themselves and feel the support of society.

During the meeting, Natalia Adamova and the Center’s leadership discussed joint initiatives and areas of cooperation focused on upskilling, professional adaptation, and employment of male and female veterans.

The head of the regional employment center also presented the range of services offered to Defenders, from vocational training and job matching to assistance in launching their own businesses.

“We help create résumés, find suitable vacancies, prepare for interviews, choose a future career path and education provider. We guide every step with practical advice. We also offer grants for starting or expanding a business,” noted Natalia Adamova.

In addition, the Employment Service encourages employers to hire combat veterans, offering them financial incentives through wage compensation programs.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to deepen collaboration between the Donetsk Regional Employment Center and the Veteran Development Center: jointly implementing programs for professional adaptation, education, and employment of veterans, and supporting them as they return to peaceful life.
