The Donetsk Regional Center for Tourism and Local History for Schoolchildren held an open regional historical and local history conference for schoolchildren and students entitled "South-Eastern Ukraine: From Antiquity to the 21st Century."
The event was held remotely and was integrated into the All-Ukrainian Historical and Local History Conference for Schoolchildren and Students "South-Eastern Ukraine: From Antiquity to the 21st Century."
The conference was held in two stages: preliminary (correspondence) and in-person. Schoolchildren took an active part in the research work. This year, 140 participants from Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Chernivtsi regions. Researchers from Germany, France, and Luxembourg also participated.
The organizing committee selected and invited 133 participants from 22 regions of Ukraine, 2 from Germany, 1 from France, and 1 from Luxembourg to participate in the face-to-face stage.
The conference was organized into 7 sections according to the following areas:
- Southeastern Ukraine in the context of Ukrainian and European history.
- History and archaeology of southeastern Ukraine from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century.
- History of southeastern Ukraine in the 20th and 21st centuries.
- The 2014-2025 war in Ukraine through the eyes of young people.
- Cultural and educational processes in the regions.
- Ethnographic regional studies.
- The ecotourism and natural recreation potential of Ukraine's regions. Problems of regional landscapes.
Each section became a platform for discussion and presentation of research achievements. The sections were led by authoritative experts: professors from leading universities, members of the board of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine, museum directors, and experienced specialists from cultural and educational institutions.
The results of the research and local history studies will be published in a collection of abstracts from the conference participants. Participants were awarded diplomas for the best reports for the high level of the presentations.
