On 24 October 2025, the winners and laureates among young authors of poetry and prose works of the regional competition ‘I am the future of Donetsk region’ were announced. The competition was organised by the Donetsk Regional Library for Children with the support of the Donetsk Regional State Administration.

The aim of the competition is to support the creative abilities of children and teenagers, develop the literary potential of the younger generation, foster love for their native land, and shape active citizenship and national-patriotic consciousness.

The competition is being held for the fifth time and traditionally brings together talented young authors from all communities in the region. This year, 33 creative works were submitted by 31 young Donetsk residents aged 9 to 18 in three categories: ‘My Dream,’ ‘Thoughts About a Patriot,’ and ‘My Native Land, I Praise You!’

The event was attended by the deputy head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Shevchenko. He noted that this competition is an opportunity to see Donetsk region through the eyes of sincere, strong and talented young people. ‘You write about hope, about light despite darkness, about love for Ukraine - and this inspires us, adults, to preserve and develop what you dream of,’ he said.

During the event, a collection of the best works by the contest participants was presented, which will be published on the regional library's website. Based on the jury's evaluation, 20 winners were selected in various age categories and genres.

The guest of honour at the event was the chairman of the jury, writer and journalist Pavlo Kushch, who shared his impressions of the works he had read, talked about his own creative path and gave practical advice to young authors.

The competition ‘I am the future of Donetsk region’ confirmed that in today's difficult conditions, children continue to create, dream and express their love for their native land through the literary word.

We thank the parents, teachers and librarians who support children's talents and contribute to the development of the creative potential of the young generation of Donetsk region.
