Age Is Not a Barrier: How Experience Helped One Man Find a New Job

Published 02 July 2026 year, 11:35

The stereotype that finding a job after the age of 50 or 60 is difficult is being disproved every day by hundreds of Ukrainians. Life experience, responsibility, and a genuine desire to contribute are valuable assets that employers continue to appreciate.

A great example is the story of Mr. Serhii from Sloviansk. After becoming unemployed in his sixties, he refused to give up. Instead, he turned to the Sloviansk Employment Office of the Kramatorsk Branch of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center for assistance.

Employment specialists invited him to participate in the national "Experience Matters" project, which was specifically created to support older job seekers. They helped him submit an application through the website of the State Employment Service and quickly matched him with a vacancy as a school security guard at one of the community's schools.

After successfully completing on-the-job training, the Department of Education of the Sloviansk City Military Administration offered Mr. Serhii a permanent position. Today, he is employed and has a stable source of income.
