Viktor Romanchuk — military surgeon and recipient of the Order of St. Panteleimon

The Donetsk region has a Regional Council for the St. Panteleimon Order, a public and professional medical award, which each year nominates candidates from the region at the national level in various categories for civilian and military medics.

Currently, Donetsk region has nine winners of this prestigious award, who are the pride not only of the region but of the whole of Ukraine. Among them is Viktor Romanchuk, Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service, Head of the Department of Elective Surgery at the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Central Region.

Viktor Romanchuk serves as head of the planned surgery department of the abdominal surgery clinic and is directly involved in the treatment of wounded military personnel. He performs complex reconstructive surgical procedures on the chest and abdominal organs, major blood vessels, and limbs.

His professional achievements include the introduction of interdisciplinary coordination of medical evacuation routes for the wounded, the development of international cooperation and exchange of experience with medical institutions in the US and European countries, as well as the presentation of Ukrainian experience in military surgery at international conferences.

After receiving the Order of St. Panteleimon, Viktor Romanchuk continued to serve as a leading surgeon in military medical units in various regions of Ukraine. During this period, he performed direct surgical treatment of the wounded, coordinated the work of surgical teams, and implemented modern algorithms for providing assistance in combat trauma.

He also organized a system of surgical care in frontline and rear regions, particularly in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions, ensured interregional coordination of medical evacuation measures, and standardized surgical care in cases of mass casualties.

International cooperation is an important part of his work. At the invitation of representatives of the United States, the Republic of Latvia, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Lithuania, he shared Ukraine's experience in organizing military surgical care and treating combat trauma, participated in international conferences, training, and professional exchanges on the organization of medical services in conditions of possible military aggression.

Viktor Romanchuk's professional activity is an example of the high level of military medicine in Donetsk Oblast, the region's significant contribution to the development of the national health care system, and the dignified representation of Ukrainian experience at the international level.
