Soldiers found a dog with a bullet lodged in its paw in Svitlyi, Donetsk Oblast. They took him in, named him Polkan, and cared for him as best they could. They didn’t notice the injury right away, but as soon as they discovered it, they reached out to UAnimals for help in transporting the dog for treatment.
Volunteer Polina arrived to rescue the dog, accompanied by colleagues from Italy. That’s how Polkan ended up in Kyiv. At the clinic, doctors removed the bullet from his paw, but due to severe stress, the dog kept gnawing at the wound. It took a long time and the right treatment for Polkan to finally calm down and for his paw to heal.
Recently, this story had an incredible ending. The volunteer from Italy who rescued Polkan from Svitlyi returned to take him into his family for good.
