Published 20 November 2025 year, 09:25

The Donetsk Regional Palace of Children's and Youth Creativity continues to introduce you to inspiring natives of Donetsk region. This issue is dedicated to Mykhailo Petrenko.

"I look at the sky and wonder why I am not a falcon, why I cannot fly..." — these are the words of a song that touches the soul deeply and is often considered a folk song. Its author is Mykhailo Petrenko, a native of Sloviansk: "Here is Sloviansk — my family, my heart is beating in my chest..."

A romantic poet, he saw not a boundary in the sky, but a path. No wonder he is called the "poet of the sky." He is a man who taught Ukraine and the world to look up, even when their feet are firmly planted on the ground.

His Cossack roots and noble origins gave the poet a love of space and freedom, as well as a high culture, refinement, and deep respect for the word. His poems came to life in folk melodies, turning into songs that still resonate in people's hearts today. This is the power of his talent and the basis of his legacy.

His legacy lives on today in symbolic and inspiring lines: "The sky is eternity, and man in it is a ray of the soul..."
