How can male and female veterans find work in the field of mine action?

Published 03 April 2026 year, 14:32

The field of mine action in Ukraine is actively developing and requires specialists. Veterans possess the experience, skills, and competencies that are extremely valuable for this work.

That is why the guide “Employment of Veterans in the Field of Mine Action” has been prepared to help employers better understand how to hire veterans and create a supportive environment for them.

The guide contains practical recommendations on:

▪️ legal requirements for hiring veterans

▪️ government programs to support employers

▪️ channels for finding candidates with military experience

▪️ conducting interviews and reviewing veterans’ resumes

▪️ creating a veteran-friendly work environment

▪️ adapting the workplace, particularly for people with disabilities

Special attention is given to the professional reintegration of veterans and how employers can take military experience into account during the hiring process.

The guide also includes checklists for employers, recommendations on how to facilitate on-the-job training, and a list of veterans’ organizations with which employers can collaborate to promote job openings.

Mine action is currently one of the fields where veterans can apply their post-service experience and continue working for Ukraine’s security in civilian life.

The guide was developed by the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine (UNDP) as part of the project “Supporting Inclusive Recovery to Ensure Resilience and Safety of People in Ukraine” with financial support from the Government of Japan at the request of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine (Ministry of Economy) and in cooperation with the NGO “Center for Employment of Free People” and Demine Ukraine to implement Ukraine’s Mine Action Strategy until 2033.
