On June 3-5, Lviv hosted the final stage of the All-Ukrainian Youth Environmental Movement "Green Relay" of the 2024-2025 academic year.
The event was held in a mixed format and brought together active students and teachers from nine regions of Ukraine: Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovs'k, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Odesa, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions.
It was organized by the National Ecological and Naturalistic Center for Students in cooperation with the Lviv Regional Center for Ecological and Naturalistic Creativity of Students.
The participants presented their own environmental initiatives and research projects on biotesting. In particular, the young ecologists conducted an experiment to determine the toxicity of soils collected in different locations in the city: near a gas station, a highway, a school playground, and a garden. The seeds of cultivated plants were sown on soil samples, and the results helped determine the level of pollution and environmental safety of the micro-locations.
Donetsk region confidently asserted itself and won in two nominations:
- the team of Kostiantynivka Lyceum No. 9 - among general secondary education institutions;
- the team of the Donetsk Regional Ecology and Nature Center - among out-of-school educational institutions.
The participants were prepared for the competition by an experienced mentor, Anna Danylchenko, a biology and chemistry teacher at Kostiantynivka Lyceum No. 9 and head of the DOENC club.
These achievements demonstrate the high level of training, environmental literacy and responsible attitude of young Donetsk residents to environmental protection. We sincerely congratulate the winners and wish them new successes in protecting the nature of their native land and Ukraine!
