Oksana is one of those who were forced to leave their home by the war. In search of safety, she moved from Pokrovsk to Odesa. Like thousands of other internally displaced persons, she faced certain difficulties: job loss, uncertainty, and a new city. But Oksana immediately decided to take action and turned to the specialists of the Employment Service for support.
In peacetime, Oksana worked as a boiler room operator at a utility company. She knew well what shift work, responsibility and a continuous schedule meant. This is the kind of employment she was looking for after moving.
Employment service specialists suggested that Ms. Oksana consider not only her already known specialty, but also related areas in which she could realize her professional qualities. During the consultations with the career counselor, they discussed potential job options, training and additional services available to IDPs.
“I like helping people, maintaining order and creating at least a temporary sense of security,” she says. These words became key in her search for a job that matched her vocation.
When a vacancy for a bomb shelter caretaker appeared at the Service Center utility company, the career counselor immediately notified Oksana. She completed an internship and was officially employed soon after.
An individual approach, support from specialists, readiness for change and perseverance are the key components of successful adaptation to a new job.
