Resident of Mariupol Alina Perehudova Died on March 29, 2022. She Was 14 Years Old. Her Mother and Uncle Were Killed Beside Her.
During the full-scale invasion, Alina lived with her mother, uncle, and grandmother at 48 Morskyi Boulevard. This neighborhood was among the first to come under intense and daily shelling by the Russian army. The "green" corridor that the authorities had planned for March 5–6 never materialized.
In early March, the city lost communication, electricity, water, and gas. To survive, Mariupol residents had to cook outdoors. But food and water supplies gradually ran out. On March 29, Alina, her mother, and her uncle went out to fetch water.
“They went to a well in the village of Naidenivka. Unfortunately, Alina and her relatives came under fire. They all died. Only the grandmother survived because she had stayed home,” recalled their neighbor Olena Romanska.
Alina was born in Mariupol. She studied at School No. 10. She loved animals and had a dog. She also enjoyed roller-skating in the yard with her friends. She was kind-hearted and liked spending time with children who needed extra attention. She helped them, felt compassion, and was very empathetic.
“Alina was very hardworking, diligent, and determined. Like all young people, she had many goals for the future. She left us in 2020 after completing the 7th grade to study at the Donetsk Regional Vocational College,” said the school’s deputy principal, Nataliia Stepova.
Alina was a student of the Donetsk Regional Specialized Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve for Weightlifting and attended the Donetsk Regional Specialized Professional Sports College named after Serhii Bubka. She was a candidate for the Ukrainian national team.
“Alina was a Master of Sports and a regional champion. Her grandmother would sometimes talk about her achievements. I remember she received some prestigious scholarship. Alina was polite and friendly, and, as it turned out, very goal-oriented,” added neighbor Olena Romanska.
Talented, promising, and persistent — in 2021, at the U17 National Championship for Girls in the under-40 kg weight category, Alina won gold medals.
“She aimed to win at the highest-level competitions and had the potential to go far…” said the Donetsk Regional Department of Physical Culture and Sports.
On February 25, 2022, training camps were supposed to begin — Alina had planned to attend — but the full-scale invasion began.
Her grandmother is the only one who survived her.
