Nationwide minute of silence is observed

Published 02 March 2026 year, 09:00

Eighty-six-year-old Viktor Yurchenko was killed on September 12, 2022, in Sloviansk. He lived in an apartment in a five-story building on Svitlodarska Street. The man had been ill and went out onto the balcony at night to get some fresh air. At that moment, the enemy began shelling the city. His body was later found under the rubble.

Viktor was born in Sloviansk. He graduated from the Sloviansk Vocational Mechanical Engineering Lyceum (then Vocational School No. 15), earning a qualification as a mechanic.

At the age of 18, he began working at the Sloviansk Ceramic Plant. He worked there as a mechanic and later became a team leader. For his dedicated work, his name was repeatedly placed on the honor board.

In 1961, Viktor Yurchenko got married. He and his wife Nina lived together for 61 years and raised two daughters.

“My husband loved fishing very much and had a large collection of tackle,” Nina recalled. “He did everything with his own hands — in the apartment, he could repair and fix anything.”

Viktor Yurchenko was buried at the Northern Cemetery in Sloviansk.

At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial platform “Killed by Russia” honor the residents of Donetsk region killed by Russian forces.
