Oleksandr Hlushchenko was killed on May 17, 2022, as a result of a missile strike in the village of Drobysheve, Kramatorsk district. Two weeks earlier, he had turned 50.
Oleksandr was born and lived in Drobysheve. He graduated from a vocational school in Kramatorsk, where he obtained the profession of electric and gas welder.
In 1992, he began working on the railway at the production unit “Lyman Electromechanical Workshops” of the Enerhoremtrans branch. He was eager to learn, constantly improving his skills and upgrading his qualifications. Over the years, he advanced through various grades as a transformer assembler (2nd and 3rd grades), maintenance fitter (3rd and 4th grades), and electric and gas welder (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades).
“His knowledge and experience were invaluable, and he was always ready to help his colleagues. Oleksandr was sociable and kind, creating an atmosphere of support and mutual understanding around him,” his coworkers recall.
According to his relatives, Russian occupiers entered Drobysheve on May 15, 2022. On the morning of May 17, Oleksandr stepped out of his yard, planning to call his daughter, when a missile struck nearby. A fragment hit him in the chest and took his life.
He was buried in a vegetable garden; they were only able to dig a grave about 20 centimeters deep because intense fighting was ongoing. An exhumation was carried out later.
“My son was very kind. He never argued with anyone. He helped people with welding—he would drop his own work to help others and never asked for anything in return. He never had free time. Together with his wife, they kept a large garden and were constantly working on it,” said his mother, Liudmyla.
Oleksandr Hlushchenko is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, and younger brother.
