Senior Sergeant Yevhen Saveliev, callsign Savelii, died on December 3, 2022, in a traffic accident near Uzhhorod in the Zakarpattia region. The serviceman was on leave undergoing rehabilitation following a wound sustained while defending the Motherland. He was 31 years old.
Yevhen was originally from the city of Mariupol. After completing his studies, he decided to pursue a military career. He lived with his family in Zakarpattia — in the village of Malyi Bereznyi. From 2010, he served in the ranks of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. From the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, he stood up to defend the country, fighting in the ATO zone in Donbas.
Starting in 2019, he served as a fighter in the 15th Battalion of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, carrying out combat missions in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) zone. During the full-scale invasion, Yevhen, together with his brothers-in-arms, continued to defend Ukraine against the invaders. Tragically, the warrior's life was cut short.
"My husband was always positive and cheerful. A loving family man," noted his wife, Yevheniia.
"Rest in peace, brother, I still can't believe you are gone, we will always remember you, you are the best," wrote his brother-in-arms Vladyslav Lylyk.
"Zhenya, rest in peace. Sleep peacefully, my friend, and watch over us from your heavenly guard duty. Heroes never die," wrote his sister-in-arms Alina Kovalchuk.
Yevhen was buried in the village of Malyi Bereznyi, Zakarpattia region.
The defender is survived by his wife and two sons.
