The life of 31-year-old Dariia Samofalova was taken by a Russian missile in the village of Rivne, Pokrovsk District. Nearby, her husband, two small children, mother-in-law, and nephew were also killed. The missile struck her mother-in-law’s home.
“Everyone who was there — except for Dariia’s three-year-old daughter, Yeva — was torn to pieces. The little girl’s body partially remained intact,” said Dariia’s godmother and friend, Anastasiia Novikova-Mykhailiuk.
Dariia was originally from the city of Myrnohrad. She graduated from school with a gold medal.
“Dasha was always cheerful, positive, intelligent. She had a very strong character and at the same time was shy. She and Sashko had been waiting a long time for a child and were overjoyed when they found out Dasha was pregnant,” Anastasiia recalled.
Before the birth of her second child, Dariia enjoyed oriental dancing and sang in a church choir. For a while, she sold clothes and shoes wholesale. When little Yeva was born, she dedicated herself to her family.
Because of the full-scale war, the Samofalov family had to move to Kyiv. Dariia’s mother, brother, and mother-in-law remained in Donetsk region. The family visited them from time to time. They decided to come again for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Dariia, her husband, and their children stayed at her mother’s home. On January 6, 2024, they went to visit her mother-in-law for about half an hour, planning to bring kutia and holiday greetings. At that moment, a Russian missile struck the house.
Dariia Samofalova is survived by her mother, brother, and sister.
