Published 11 January 2026 year, 09:00

Viktor Khvostyk was killed on January 15, 2024, as a result of an enemy attack on the settlement of New York. That day, he was supposed to celebrate his 72nd birthday.

Russian forces struck the settlement with four guided aerial bombs. After the impact, the entrance of a residential building collapsed, trapping five people under the rubble. The search and rescue operation lasted two weeks, and despite constant shelling, the bodies of the victims were eventually recovered.

Viktor Khvostyk was a native of Donetsk region. For many years, he worked at the phenol plant in New York, where he held the position of a locomotive driver. In recent years, he was retired. He enjoyed going to his dacha and taking care of household chores.

“My grandfather was a kind, positive person… His life was taken on his birthday. We, his grandchildren and children, were left without a loving, caring grandfather and father,” said his granddaughter, Anastasiia Timofieieva.

Viktor Khvostyk is survived by his children, grandchildren, and other relatives.

At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial: Killed by Russia platform honor the residents of Donetsk region killed by Russian forces.
