Soldier Oleksandr Voloshyn, call sign “Whisky,” fought his last battle on February 5, 2023, near the village of Vremivka in the Donetsk region. He was killed while on duty at a frontline position during an enemy assault. He was 42 years old.
Oleksandr was born in Donetsk. He graduated from the Donbas Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, where he trained as a structural steel engineer. When the Russian-Ukrainian war began in 2014, he moved to Dnipro. He worked as a technical representative for a European manufacturer of metal-plastic fittings in the eastern region. He loved outdoor activities, traveling, and fishing, and was a true professional in everything he did. He was especially fond of mushroom picking. He loved cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, as well as modern technology and devices.
With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he volunteered to join the 128th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Oleksandr was an incredible person. At first glance, he seemed reserved when it came to his personal space, but he was communicative with everyone. He was interesting, intelligent, and knowledgeable in many areas... He was extremely reliable... He was a reliable husband, father, friend, comrade-in-arms, and citizen. He always resolutely defended what he believed in. Oleksandr was a person who carried light. His blue eyes always shone with a certain natural boldness. He could take childlike joy in the simplest things, yet he was always very responsible. He filled the lives of those close to him with the confidence that everything ahead would be good!” his wife Oksana recalled.
The defender was buried at the Krasnopilske Cemetery in the city of Dnipro. Oleksandr is survived by his wife, son, and father.
At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform remember the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
