Nationwide minute of silence

Published 14 June 2026 year, 09:00

Soldier Dmytro Nykytov, call sign “Skorpion,” was killed on May 1, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Kalynove in Donetsk region. He was 26 years old.

Dmytro was born in the city of Myrnohrad. He graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk College of Economics and Business of Oles Honchar National University with a degree in Commercial Activity. Even during his compulsory military service, he chose the path of a professional soldier.

In July 2018, he signed a contract and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He carried out combat missions in the area of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). Following the start of the full-scale war, he continued defending Ukraine against the enemy. He served in the ranks of the 109th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade as a mortar crew member in the mortar platoon of the mortar battery.

“Dmytro was a true patriot of his country. He always had a positive outlook on life. He had two greatest dreams: the birth of his son and defeating the enemy. According to his brothers-in-arms, Dmytro was a cheerful, reliable, and courageous friend and warrior. He never hesitated when it came to the front line—he was always among the first to step forward. I am proud of my husband, I love him dearly, and I miss him very much,” said his wife.

The defender was laid to rest at Krasnopilske Cemetery in the city of Dnipro.

He is survived by his wife, Anastasiia, and his son, Sviatoslav.

At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial Platform honor and remember the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
