Nationwide minute of silence

Published 16 January 2026 year, 09:00

51-year-old Svitlana Horbatenko was killed in Mariupol in the second half of March 2022. A shell hit her home on Kalchanska Street in the Kalmiuskyi district. Svitlana’s civilian husband, Dmytro Piven, was killed nearby.

Svitlana Horbatenko was born and lived in Mariupol. She worked as a tram driver at the Mariupol Tram and Trolleybus Administration. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing together with her husband.

“Svitlana was sincere, kind, and cheerful. We became friends back in 1995, when I started working at the depot as a conductor. Our husbands were friends as well. Svitlana was an excellent professional — she trained others to drive electric transport. A wonderful mother and wife,” said Svitlana’s close friend, Hanna Prykhnenko.

Her friend lost contact with Svitlana and Dmytro on March 2, 2022. She searched for them and gathered information. It was from neighbors, friends, and relatives of the couple that she learned about their deaths.

At 9:00 a.m. — the nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial platform honor residents of Donetsk region killed by Russia.
