Nationwide minute of silence

Published 16 April 2026 year, 09:00

54-year-old Olena Abrazhaieva was killed on July 8, 2023, during a Russian shelling of Lyman. She had gone to a shop by bicycle when the attack struck the city. Eight people were killed that day.

Olena was born in Zhytomyr region into a military family and had lived in Lyman since the age of four. She graduated from a medical college and worked as a nurse, including in surgery. People constantly turned to her for help, and during the COVID-19 pandemic she cared for patients at home.

“She was an incredibly kind person — everyone who needed help came to her,” her relatives recall.

That morning, her sister was waiting for her at home. After the explosions, Olena stopped answering calls. Later, her family identified her among the victims.

During the occupation of Lyman, Olena lost her son, and her husband had passed away earlier. She is survived by her sister.

At 9:00 a.m. — a nationwide minute of silence.

The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial platform “Killed by Russia” honor civilians from Donetsk region killed by Russian forces.
