Published 16 July 2026 year, 09:00

Soldier Bohdan Petrushchenko, known by the call sign "Pers," was killed on September 26, 2024, near the village of Khrapivshchyna in the Sumy region. He sustained fatal injuries during a Russian airstrike. He was forever 28 years old.

Bohdan was born in the city of Chystiakove. He spent many years living in Crimea and Zaporizhzhia. He graduated from Zaporizhzhia National Technical University with a degree in Industrial Mechanical Engineering. Before the war, he worked for the Motor Sich company.

Outside of work, Bohdan studied art and psychology and was interested in history, literature, IT, and programming. He played the guitar, wrote poetry, and composed music.

Following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 54th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion as an interpreter of UAV reconnaissance materials in the Unmanned Aerial Systems Company.

For his service, Bohdan was awarded the "War Veteran" badge.

"Bohdan was not only my husband but also my best friend and mentor. He was someone with whom I could discuss the universe, anthropology, and exchange endless reading lists on any topic. Then we could watch videos of cute animals and laugh for two hours over something trivial. He was a devoted, caring, and calm man who taught me how to love life," said his wife, Oleksandra.

Bohdan's body was cremated in Kyiv.

He is survived by his wife, parents, sister, and two brothers.

At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes the National Minute of Silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration, together with the Memorial Heroes Platform, honors the memory of the fallen defenders from the Donetsk region.
