On March 7, 2022, in the city of Volnovakha, 58-year-old Colonel Leonid Dominiuk, call sign Apostol, was killed.
His unit was holding the flanks along Sportyvna Street under heavy enemy fire. The soldier was leading his personnel to their positions, having designated a shelter location. Taking the rear himself, he did not have time to hide. As a result of devastating Russian shelling, he sustained severe shrapnel wounds to the chest.
Leonid was born in the city of Horlivka into a family of builders — his parents worked at the local auto repair plant. After finishing eight grades of school, he entered the Horlivka Industrial Technical School. He was a member of a creative group, played bass guitar, and was actively engaged in sports. He graduated with honors as a ground electrician.
In February 2015, he voluntarily enlisted in his native Donetsk Border Detachment. At the time of the full-scale invasion, he served as head of the operational planning group.
