Published 21 September 2025 year, 09:00

Senior Soldier Dmytro Lisen, call sign “Lys”, was killed on April 15, 2022, in the city of Mariupol. During a crossing in APCs at the post-bridge near Azovstal, the column came under fire. The warrior was 37 years old.

Dmytro was born in Mariupol into a large family. In his hometown, he graduated from the Pryazovskyi State Technical University with a degree in Ferrous Metallurgy.

He worked at the Illich Iron and Steel Works, and later as an engineer at the V. M. Shymanovskyi Ukrainian Institute of Steel Construction.

In 2014, Dmytro joined the defense of Ukraine. A year later, he returned to civilian life. He obtained a second higher education at the O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy in Construction and Civil Engineering. He worked as chief designer at an enterprise in Mariupol. On the eve of the full-scale invasion, he was a lead engineer at Metinvest Engineering LLC in Dnipro.

“My husband and I are very proud of him! He never raised his voice at us, was always polite. We love him very much, as we do our other children. Dmytro treated us with respect, and with love and tenderness toward his wife and children. He was very responsible, calm, and balanced. He always tried to achieve his goals. His colleagues valued him, and he was respected for his fairness,” his mother Alla recalled.

On February 26, 2022, Senior Soldier Dmytro Lisen returned to service. He defended Ukraine as part of the Separate Special Purpose Unit Azov. He served as a signalman in the communications section of the commander’s battery platoon of the 1st Howitzer Artillery Battery of the Howitzer Artillery Battalion.

“On April 15 they were ordered to break through from the right bank of Mariupol to Azovstal. The column set off in APCs. Dmytro was in one of the vehicles when they came under an airstrike at the post-bridge. My son sustained injuries incompatible with life. He was considered missing until early 2023. Only after DNA testing could we identify him and lay him to rest,” his mother added.

In March 2023, his body was cremated. His ashes were buried at Lukianivske Cemetery in Kyiv.

Dmytro Lisen was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” III Class.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and younger brother. His elder brother, soldier Serhii Troyan, was killed on November 3, 2023, near the village of Krynky in Kherson region.

At 9:00 a.m. — the nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
