46-year-old Territorial Defense fighter Vadym Ihnatiuk was killed on September 8, 2022, while defending Bakhmut.
Vadym was from Donetsk region. He graduated from Donetsk University of Economics and Law in Bakhmut. From childhood he was passionate about photography, which later became his profession. Since 2014, he had been engaged in volunteer work, helping Ukrainian soldiers.
With the start of the full-scale invasion, Vadym traded his camera for a weapon and stood up to defend his native Donetsk region. He joined one of the Territorial Defense units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and fought on the Bakhmut axis.
“You did not betray yourself, your dreams, or your convictions. You always fought for goodness and justice, spoke the truth, and had no fear of life,” his wife Nataliia wrote.
Vadym Ihnatiuk was laid to rest at Lisove Cemetery in Kyiv.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide moment of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes’ Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
