Published 26 June 2026 year, 09:00

Ten-year-old Khrystyna Banna was killed by the Russian army in Kostiantynivka.

On the morning of August 9, 2024, Russian forces struck the city with an Kh-38 missile, hitting a shopping center. At the time of the attack, about 50 people were inside. After the rubble was cleared, it was confirmed that 14 people had been killed, including Khrystyna’s father, Serhii.

Khrystyna was a fifth-grade student at Kostiantynivka General Secondary School No. 1. At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, her family was forced to evacuate abroad, but after some time they returned to their hometown. During the war, Khrystyna continued her education remotely.

“She was eager to learn and loved being creative. She had many friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. Among them, she was known as a brave and determined girl. To her family and friends, she remained kind, open-hearted, and positive,” the school where Khrystyna studied recalled.

She is survived by her mother and two sisters.

At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes the nationwide minute of silence. Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial Platform commemorate the civilians of Donetsk region killed by Russia.
