National minute of silence

Published 27 August 2026 year, 09:00

89-year-old Pavlo Nemyrovskyi was killed on March 9, 2022, during the battles for Mariupol. A Russian shell hit his house in the Kalmiuskyi district. The home caught fire, and Pavlo, who had been bedridden in recent years, burned to death in his own dwelling.

That same shelling also claimed the life of his wife, Halyna. Ukrainian service members evacuated the wounded woman in an APC to Hospital No. 1, but Russian forces later bombed it with artillery, killing both the wounded and medical staff.

Pavlo was born on February 23, 1933. For 25 years, he worked at the Illich Steel and Iron Works as a heat treater. He was also an artist: he painted landscapes and still lifes, collected sculptures, and built a large collection. All of it burned along with the house.

His son, Serhiy, shared that Pavlo painted throughout his whole life. His work was carried on by his son and 3 grandchildren, who all became professional artists.

Pavlo Nemyrovskyi is survived by his son and 3 grandchildren.

At 9:00 AM—the national minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the "Memorial: Killed by Russia" platform remember the residents of Donetsk Oblast killed by the Russians.
